Asus just launched its ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop in India. This comes in two variants, one with AniMe Matrix and one without it. They cost ₹98,990 and ₹80,990 respectively for base models. The Zephyrus G14 is powered by AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS, Ryzen 7 4800HS and Ryzen 5 4600HS processor that has up to 8 cores and 16 threads. The laptop is said to feature customized intelligent cooling system and powered by up to RTX 2060 MaxQ GPU from NVIDIA.

It also comes with 14-inch UHD or FHD resolution Pantone validated 100% sRGB display with 85% screen to body ratio.

With 17.9mm thickness and 1.6kg weight, the Zephyrus G14 has a Magnesium-Alloy keyboard frame with fingerprint-resistance. The highlight here is AniMe Matrix monochrome palette and pixelated pattern on the shell, which acts like a secondary screen when the laptop is closed. It can show you the time or any other information, giving that ‘gamer’ feel to it. You can customise it via an inbuilt software.

As for the battery, the Zephyrus G14 is backed by a 4-cell 76WHr battery with Type-C charging by 65W adapter and 180W AC adapter. This comes in addition to Dolby Atmos, 2x2.5 speakers + 2x0.7W tweeter and ROG’s intelligent cooling solution for efficient thermal output. The Zephyrus G14 can support up to 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD.

Besides launching the G14, Asus India also announced the AMD versions of ZenBook 14, VivoBook S S14, VivoBook Ultra K15, VivoBook Ultra 14/15, VivoBook Flip 14 and Zephyrus G15 with bases prices ₹69,990, ₹59,990, ₹54,990, ₹49,990 and ₹1,04,990.

ByteDance is in early discussions with Reliance Industries Limited to invest in the India operations of TikTok, reports TechCrunch. The conversations began late last month and are yet finalise a deal, the report added.

The discussion comes at a time when the Indian government has imposed a ban on the popular video-sharing network citing security concerns.

In the US too, TikTok is facing a ban unless it is acquired by an American company by September 15. For the sale of US operations and other select markets, ByteDance is in talks with Microsoft and other potential buyers such as Twitter.

As far as India goes, it has been TikTok’s largest market in the world for quite some time. Before the June ban, TikTok had 200 million users. It had also successfully developed a thriving content creators’ community.

TechCrunch in its report pointed out that the TikTok-Reliance discussions come as the parent ByteDance is struggling to retain key executives in India. Some of its top high-level executives such as policy head and Rohan Mishra, who headed ByteDance’s Helo operations in India, have already left the company.

The company has over 2,000 employees in India. ByteDance had last said that it does not intend to lay off its employees. A deal with Reliance, however, could help TikTok overcome several challenges in its largest market.

Reliance, in the meanwhile, has begun focusing on the digital market. Its Jio Platforms, a combination of its telecom, e-commerce and other services, has raised investments from the likes of Facebook, Google and other investors.

Genius filed a lawsuit against Google in December 2019 alleging that the company was lifting lyrics off its platform.



Judge Margo Brodie while dismissing the lawsuit said that Genius isn’t the actual copyright holder of the song lyrics.

Google has beaten a lawsuit by Genius Media Group over the claims that it was allegedly scraping song lyrics from the site. A federal judge in the Eastern District of New York dismissed the lawsuit stating that while the claims of scraping were credible, it did not constitute a copyright violation as the lyrics company wasn’t the original copyright holder of the lyrics.

To give you some context, Genius filed a lawsuit against Google in December 2019 alleging that the company was lifting lyrics off its platform. This means if someone were to search for ‘Photograph lyrics’ on Google Search, Google instead of taking them to Genius would natively show the lyrics which it took from Genius’ website.

Earlier last year, Google put out a blog post explaining how it sourced lyrics to songs. In its post, the company said that it did not scrape websites to source these lyrics that they were provided by the lyrics content providers. The company also said that it updated the lyrics automatically as it received new lyrics and corrections on a regular basis.

Genius demonstrated its claim by cleverly placing a text watermark ‘red handed’ into its lyrics entries by using Morse code apostrophes. Subsequently, Google was caught red-handed, which proved Genius’ allegations.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Judge Margo Brodie while dismissing the lawsuit said that Genius isn’t the actual copyright holder of the song lyrics. Those belong to the musicians who wrote them and the publishers. The judge said that though Genius effectively licences the lyrics that doesn’t give it the necessary copyright claim over the lyrics.

"Plaintiff’s breach of contract claims are nothing more than claims seeking to enforce the copyright owners’ exclusive rights to protection from unauthorized reproduction of the lyrics and are therefore preempted," the judge wrote.
